INVESTIGATIONS

From the Hanover Mariner:

Rash of burglaries put police on alert
By Ed Baker/ ebaker@cnc.com
Wednesday, July 20, 2005

Police Lt. Walter L. Sweeney said his department is investigating a series of thefts that occurred on Pine Tree Drive, Candlewood Lane and Bardin Street during the past few weeks.

A team of burglars are stealing motorcycles, and valuables from unlocked cars during the early morning hours.

"Some individuals have been going into unlocked cars and removing items of value," said Sweeney. "Those items have included credit cards, cash and personal checks."

He said all of the thefts have generally occurred between midnight and 4 a.m.

"On Tuesday (July 13) we had two cars owned by residents broken into on Bardin Street and some items of value were stolen," said Sweeney. "We also had a truck and motorcycle stolen from a Bardin Street resident, but the truck was recovered in Boston today (Friday)."

He sad two residents on Pine Tree Drive had cash, credit cards and personal checks stolen from the vehicles in separate incidents on July 1.

"We also had two motorcycles stolen from their owners on Candlewood Lane on July 1," said Sweeney

He said some of the checks and credit cards have been used by the suspects to make purchases from stores in Boston.

"Our investigation thus far has shown that the stolen credit cars and checks have been used in transactions in Mattapan, Dorchester and Roxbury," said Sweeney. "We are seeking leads in these cases and are working with merchants from these locations to determine when the cards were used in an attempt to identify the suspects."

He said residents need to make sure their cars are locked at all times when they are unattended.

"They should also remove all valuables from them, especially at night," said Sweeney. "If anybody has information about these thefts they should contact us immediately."
